I'm writing this blog to answer customers' inquiries. Our customers ask often "What is low pH and why is low pH good for skin?", though Low pH is the widely dispersed word among K-beauty lovers. Before answering the questions, you have to know about pH Levels.

<The pH Scale>

According to the graph above. pH 7 is neutral such as water. Under pH 7 is acidic and over pH 7 is alkaline.

The important thing is Low pH doesn't indicate strongly acidic in the skincare world. It means slightly acid between pH 5.5~6, similar to your skin's pH level.

So today, I'll discuss Cica, Centella Asiatica,  and Madecassoside to solve your curiosity

What is Centella Asiatica?

Centella Asiatica is a plant, known as Tiger Grass because wounded tigers go to this grass and roll in to heal their wounds. As you can guess from this story, Centella Asiatica helps skin recover! Accordingly, from old times people used Centella Asiatica as a treatment for skin.

What is Cica?

Cica would be familiar to Koran skincare lovers because Cica is a shortened form of Centella Asiatica. A lot of product formulated with Centella Asiatica uses the word 'Cica' as its product name.

What is Madecassoside?

Madecasoside, which normally contained in Cica products, is an active ingredient of Centella Asiatica.

The Efficacy of Centella Asiatica

Madecassic acid contained in Centella Asiatica helps to generate collagen in the wounded area so it's effective for recovering from skin wound quickly. Centella Asiatica Extract is also good as an anti-oxidant and helps calm nerves.

Hi K-SECRET Lovers! Today topic is AHA, BHA, and PHA

I guess most Korean skincare lovers already know these three ingredients. But, do you guys know the exact differences between AHA, BHA, and PHA?

Even if you don't know, don't worry. I'm going to explain it.

Then, now it's time to start!

 1. AHA 

AHA (Alpha Hydroxy Acids) is acids found in natural stuff like fruits and sugar cane. This is well known as a chemical exfoliator. It pushes away dead skin cells naturally so it makes sense it can resurface and improve skin texture.

2. BHA

According to Wikipedia, BHA (Beta Hydroxy Acids) is an organic compound that contains a carboxylic acid functional group and the hydroxy functional group separated by two carbon atoms.

It has quite different efficacy compared to AHA. It is good for controlling excessive sebum, clogged pore, and acne so, I can say BHA is suitable for oily skin type!

 3. PHA 

PHA (polyhydroxy acids) is the next generation exfoliator. PHA is similar to AHA. But PHA's molecule size is larger than AHA. It can't go through the skin deeper than AHA and BHA. That why it causes less irritation and suitable for sensitive skin. Besides, PHA retains moisture well and strengthens the skin barrier.
